Arpaio, Thomas Sue ... Everyone?
In a news conference Monday, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and County Attorney Andrew Thomas announced they're filing a federal racketeering lawsuit against many county leaders, some attorneys and several judges, among others. The suit alleges that the Board of Supervisors actively worked to prevent the sheriff's and the county attorney's offices from performing their duties.

In a statement, the Board of Supervisors called the suit a "sore loser lawsuit." A county spokeswoman also said that Arpaio and Thomas appear to have "very active imaginations."

Once again we taxpayers have to foot the bill for one of Arpaio's stunts!

Why not get off Apaio's back and get on the backs of the politions that have decided not to enforce the ILLEGAL immigration laws. The ILLEGALS cost us money in the schools (ESL expenses) at the hospitals because the do not pay their bills, in the law enforcement area because they seem to always be the ones committing crimes (percentage wise more than any other group). We may be able to solve the state budget problems if we did not have to fund all of the problems they cause.

It seems that most of the politions want to over look the ILLEGAL immigration problem and have elected not to enforce those laws. Why not elect not to enforce the bank robbery laws, the drug laws, the rape laws? Laws are made to be enforced and not on a selective basis, at least that is the way it was explained to me from childhood on. Who gives the mayor of Phoenix the right to decide which laws are to be enforced? Are the Board of Supervisors given the power the over ride enforcemnt of certain laws by failing to support the elected sheriff by cuttng his budget?

Give us legals a break enforce the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT LAWS as we seem to be the ones who have to pay the bills.

Joe and Andrew seem to know what their job is: Enforce all the laws, not just some. Phil Gordon and his ilk have repeatedly put the citizens of this county and city at risk by stopping Joe from doing what he was elected to do. Fortunately, Phil won't be in office much longer and I'm sure the next guy can beat him by running on Law Enforcement platforms. Instead of trying to stop these two valiant and brave men from doing their jobs, why don't we go after Phil and his ilk, including the Board of Supervisors for not doing their jobs and having this attitude that Illegals are good for Arizona. If they were so good, how come when the jobs dried up and they left, our crime rate dropped. Coincidence? I think not! Instead of La Raza running or county or city, why don't we allow Joe and Andrew to do their jobs and then these law suits wouldn't be necessary!
Truly sad...

"Joe and Andrew" seem to know how to spend our money that they did not work for. the worst thing about all of this is that they are doing this during the worst recession in recent history with people out of work. Shows you where their priorities are.

I'm fairly new to this state and 2 years ago I never heard of Sheriff Joe, so perhaps my questions might elicit some responses that will bring me up to speed. I certainly am in favor of law enforcement doing its job correctly and part of that is enforcing the laws against illegal immigration. My questions are; is Sherrif Joe the only person who can do this? Is it possible that this County can have someone enforce those laws without being such a divisive and polarizing figure? Could someone do that without breaking laws and costing the taxpayers millions in legal fees? Does Sheriff Joe have some type of personality disorder or emotional disturbance that causes him to fight authority and hold himself up as above and beyond the law? It seems like this whole issue to a lot of people is either-or. Does it have to be either-or? Either we have Sheriff Joe or illegals will run rampant? Have his opponents come out in favor of illegal immigration? Finally, how effective has he been in doing his job after all the factors are looked at as objectively as possible?

I have never been active politically, but will be in the next election. What ever Joe runs for I will support his opponent. I am tired of divisive non affective law enforcement. I will put my time and money where my word are.

P.S I also feel the same way about our legislature.

Joe Arpaio is a lawsuit magnet who costs Maricopa County millions. Nine million was awarded to the mother of Charles Agster a mentally handicapped man forced into a restraint chair by sheriff deputies. Eight and a quarter million was awarded to the family of Scott Norberg who died after being forced into a restraint chair by sheriff deputies. Two million was awarded to the family of Brian Crenshaw who was legally blind and mentally disabled who died after being beaten by sheriff deputies. Eight hundred thousand was awarded to Richard Post a paraplegic who became quadriplegic when sheriff deputies broke his neck while placing him in a restraint chair. An undisclosed amount over 1 million was awarded to the family of Clint Yarbourgh who suffocated while in a restraint chair.

Joe Arpaio does undocumented immigrant sweeps because when his department tried to do a prostitution sweep in November 2003 sixty cases of the seventy arrested were thrown out because the sheriff deputies engaged in sex-acts with the prostitutes before arresting them. I bet his deputies are thankful that Joe hasn’t sent them out on any male prostitution sweeps.

Joe Arpaio has arrested a county supervisor and then rearrested him again when the charges were dropped. When Joe Arpaio didn’t like articles about him published in the Phoenix New Times he had the publishers arrested and he has threatened to arrest reporters for the newspaper too.

Joe needs to go!

I live here half of the year....which alot of you would like to say to me....go home. However, I would like to remind those people that I represent a large population that brings revenue to this severely depressed state.

Regarding Joe Arpaio. I am amazed Phoenix has such a large ignorant population that supports him. I travel all over the U.S. and have yet to see a place where a sheriff's name is more publicized than any other elected official. Where else in the country would you see signs that say "Maricopa County, home of Sheriff Joe Arpaio" and have been printed at the expense of taxpayers. He is an ex-crook bent on self promotion and I cannot believe this state has permitted him to be sheriff.

Also, regarding illegal immigration: Shame on Joe Arpaio again. Can't he use his police force to pick up real criminals that actually cause pain and loss to the public. It's proven that the criminal presence is not primarily the illegal latino population. While his raids and deportation have gone up it would stand to reason that crime would go down....however, that has not been the case.

Also, regarding illegal latinos: don't forget these illegals buy groceries, buy goods and pay rent. And REALLY......who do you know lost a job to a mexican?

Sheriff Joe is disgusting, dirty, and a disgrace to Phoenix. Why someone hasn't already picked him off amazes me completely. His Tent City approach to DUI offenders is unconstitutional. He has no regard for the amount of money the taxpayers are paying for lawsuits filed against him; in fact, he has stated he doesn't care how much money the lawsuits cost because it's the insurance companies footing those bills. His wife is worried about his personal safety and she has very good reason to be so!

I actually support Sheriff Joe hole heartedly. Never focus on the personality of a person. We may not like their personality or their quirks, but their actiaons and goal are worth looking at. He is the only one I know who does not bow down to public oppinion and for those who think he does it for ego, his ego would be stroked more if he bowed. he stands against crime, which benefits you and I and the children of our community. He is unwavering and not wishy washy when it comes to crimse and one of the few who is taking a stand against people who come to this country in full knowledge that they are breaking the law, and who drain our country of resources. We have a RIGHT to say no to who comes here. Nobody has said those who want to come here cannot work, that is why we have provided work visas. To claim he is racist is juvenile and immature in thinking skills. The reality is, those who have done wrong and are now being held accountable don't want to face the consequences. There is a legal way to come into this country and their is an illegal way. Both have outcomes. If you or loved ones choose the illegal way, then do not complain when you are caught and held for your dishonest entrance. he stands against this and I commend him. I am so tired of wavering politicians who try to do everything to please the people. I stand behind him because he doesn't try to people please, but rather chooses to do what's best for the community overall. For those who protest him, take a day and study what happens to illegals in other countries.

Hurray for Sheriff Joe! Here is a man doing his job and the politicans are against him. Why would the politicans be against Sheriff Joe? Easy question...he is taking away potential voters for the Democratic Party. I love the Mexican people for their warmth and hard-working ethics, however, I have had to work for everything I have or received. If we could be assured that the good, law-abiding Mexicans came across the border all would be debateable. In the real world, we attrack the lower elements who want to peddle drugs and guns and they are brutal.

America has tried to feminize all our males. Thank God Sheriff Joe is a real man and unfortunately males like Sheriff Joe are becoming so rare it is scary. Stand up for what is right and quit pandering to the wrong and America will be strong once again!

While Sheriff Joe is far from perfect, he still has the overwhelming support of the majority of Maricopa County's citizens. Strong enforcement of the laws on illegal immigrants and and criminal acts is exactly what is needed! The charges of racial profiling are ludicrous and undeserved. I don't see anyone complaining about racial profiling at the border stops where Anglos are waved on and Hispanics are closely scrutinized. I'm a minority and don't feel violated when when law enforcement is in fact working to protect us all.

I'm not so sure Arpaio and Thomas have the support of the majority any longer. Certainly they no longer have the support of anyone that's been paying attention. The frivilous waste of taxpayer dollars is outrageous.

Chasing illegals? The only one who does his job? Hello! What has this same lawsuit against the county, filed time after time, got to do with illegals? Is this really the job of either the Sheriff's Department or the County Attorney's Office? Worse yet, the taxpayer gets to pay regardless. Does anyone really believe this is a giant conspiracy of all state, county, federal administrators, judges, etc., all of them against Sheriff Joe?

Honestly do you supporters work for Nazi Joe? You people are giving MCSO regurgitated quotes. Look do any of you poor people remember how Joe got thrust into the Illegal Immigrant Battle? Do you remember some time ago Joe had no problem with illegals. There was an incident with a former armed service man who had a coyote and his people he was transporting held at gunpoint waiting for Sheriffs to arrive to pick them up. Well when they arrived they arrested him instead. Now there was such a out cry that Joe saw the light, he decided to jump on the I hate illegal immigrant band wagon. Now as for the reports that he abuses his authority, that is a fact. He is getting away with things that the KGB or the SS would do. Last time I checked we lived in America not Nazi Germany or Communist Russia. Oh and by the way my name is Anthony J. Choppi I live in Mesa and if Joe wants to come after me for what I wrote by all means try. I will file a lawsuit against him , the state, and Andrew Thomas so fast that I will be the new sheriff. I know Joe and his no brain having idiots at the MCSO monitor this stuff because they have nothing better to do with our tax money.

I am not putting my name down here because I fear you crazy people that oppose the Sheriff. The only people afraid, or angry, oppose law enforcers are usually criminals or bad seeds. If you want this country to be like Mexico just wait, you will get your wish if you block the Sheriffs efforts. But to speed it up why don't you live in Mexico, really, live with the poverty and corruption and drug crime. That is what they bring here, if you don't think so then you need to get back in school and get some kind of educational level to allow you to comprehend facts.

Those of Hispanic heritage have a tendency to despise this guy. Not everyone with brown skin is a criminal. However, as much as skin color isn't anyones' fault - laws MUST be enforced. You CAN'T sit there and say you do NOT see ANY reason why non-english speaking, or hispanics are stopped for these kinds of "checks". You don't like it? 1.) Leave. or 2.) Change the law. To do the latter, you'll have to get citizenship - which would fix the WHOLE problem.

Hispanics have made this a Brown vs. White issue. It's a matter of the law. Are you here "Illegally"? Then go thru the proper channels to become "legal". The laws include the right not to be subject to illegal search and seizure. You can't just ignore the laws you choose to ignore and claim it is for the common good. If Joe was concerned about peoples civil rights there would be no issue and he could go about his business of stroking his own ego with each new press release that touts the "Great things the MCSO is doing." Instead he locks horns like the stubborn old man that he is, and damages his cause more than anything. The major issue here is Joe's personality.

December 7, 2009 at 10:56 AM

The Sheriff would not even have a problem if he would have just followed proper procedure and not locked horns with every single person who disagreed with him. His other issue is just abuse of power against AMERICAN citizens. This should never be allowed in a Democracy and he should understand that after 30 + years in public service.

The following letter was sent to Dennis K. Burke today with the hopes that he will agree to establish a specialized outreach effort to collect information on the abuses by and corruption of Joe Arpaio. Of course, I signed my letter and included my contact information. It is my sincere hope that you, the readers, will follow suit and contact Dennis Burke's Office with your own information. Please be sure to use your name, address and contact information. It goes without saying that most government agencies are unlikely to act on anonymous information. To access Dennis Burke's contact information simply go to: http://www.justice.gov/usao/az/contacts.html

Honorable Dennis K.Burke
US Attorney for Arizona

Dear Mr. Burke,

Recent reports indicate that your office is aware of serious allegations of abuse and corruption within the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

I respectfully request that, due to the nature of and the number of allegations of abuse and corruption within the office of Joseph M. Arpaio, your office establish a specialized outreach effort to allow those citizens with information to provide your investigators with enough detail to substantiate the allegations of corruption and abuse.

Specifically, my information is intended to provide you with instances of contract fraud, misuse of RICO funds, misuse of JEF funds, selective and targeted harassment, abuse of power, obstruction of justice, threatening and intimidating, Purjury, forgery and false swearing and providing false information on a public Financial Disclosure Form.

It is my understanding that there are also a number of MCSO employees willing to come forward to provide similar information.

Because of the complexity of the issues and volatile nature of the corruption within MCSO, it is unlikely that my information (or that of many others) could be adequately communicated through a tip line. Accordingly, I ask that you consider assigning a special outreach unit to address the overwhelming amount of information it is likely your office would be receiving.

For your kind consideration, and for your assistance I respectfully thank you in advance.

Noticed a report that crime is down in Phoenix and that shopping is safer this year. Thank you Joe. Your round ups of illegals as made this a safer place even in the face of an economic downturn. Joe shows that the law can work and make the city better. Even if you do not like Joe, when you compare him to a shady characater like Mary Rose Wilcox he wins every time.

I am deeply concerned with Joey in his position. He clearly focuses his energy on only a few aspects of his job instead of everything. He clearly would rather spend the resources chasing down someone here illegally than someone who is a felon.

His lack of administrative budget policies are costing the taxpayers millions of dollars for sub-stantard efficiency.

His fighting with other County organizations is costing the taxpayers millions of dollars in lawsuits.

He talks about ‘answering to the people’. He ‘works for the people’ he says… Yet clearly is irritated/annoyed when asked to explain himself, his actions or the actions of his ‘henchmen’.

The joke is on us, the voters and taxpayers… We can find someone who can do it better, more efficiently, and with less wasted dollars. We can find someone who can actually multi-task instead of becoming so focused on who he hates at a personal level instead of doing his ‘job’.

Can we finally sell the $456k bus that is a waste of money? What about the squad cars he has purchased to hand out for employees to drive to work and back home. Didn’t he use RICO money for that?

Taking over a government office computer room… for what? Literally, all of his henchmen came in heavily loaded… to an office? Had to have scared the he** out of everyone! And this is a correct use of resources?

How about claiming a resource issue with not having enough morons (Detention Officers) to adequately service the court system because one of their own was thrown in jail? Yet we have 200 ‘agents’ chasing down 3 illegal citizens that same day…

Now Joey and Andy indicted a judge who has a great record for being fair and objective. The judge had an issue with how the Court System is being affected (Joey’s henchmen)… Wrote a letter to all parties asking for assistance in the matter… Joey and Andy became upset and now have filed bogus charges against the Judge so that he is temporarily removed from his position. Therefore, allowing them to continue their crusade… have you read the document? There is very little fact and a lot of speculation included… We have truly become a state where you are guilty until proven innocent… sad…

Sorry folks, this is a joke… costing us time, money and patience… Joey and the MCSO have taken a hit in the public’s eye… And because of this, the public is less likely to take the MCSO as a serious law enforcement agency. That is the big picture…

Perhaps all of the supporters will start crying when our tax bills (e.g. sales tax, property tax) go up next year… Don’t wonder why… those who support him have to shut it and accept it… the money we are dishing out has to come from somewhere…

It's too bad that a lot people don't like his way of justice to all, or to all a good bye.
The only people I ever hear complain are either
(not suppose to be here) (their friends or family) (or official trying to get their vote)
He may show boat, self centered, reads the law the same for everyone, and make sure you have NO fun in jail. I'm all for him and I'd even vote for him for Gov. and I spend a little time in his jail. He's fair.

ONCE and for ALL -

this is the NEW problem for Arizona AND
America....

the YOUNG people are all naive because
they don't understand what is going on
and they just want to support the minorities
either by letting them have free medical
treamtent and by VOTING them into the oval office..

well, guess what?

this is going to be YOUR new world....

and ONE DAY...you MIGHT get it ...as the
rest of us have died off...

and you are STILL in the poor house....

and wonder if you are actually living
in Arizona or the United States...

.your actions today will impact
your future lives...

Sheriff Joe won't be around to protect you
and Obama will have screwed up your health
insurance and probably drained Medicare and
Social Security to pay for it...and THAT
was YOUR money that you paid into....and
YOU STILL don't HAVE A JOB!

So, until you YOUNG people, Democrats and
Independents who vote the wrong way figure
it out....just remember, YOU may have
WON THE BATTLE, but you LOST THE WAR....
and the War is

YOUR LIFE !!

One important piece of information that has not been discussed much is this: The reason Sheriff Arpaio has the inmates wear pink underwear is because the inmates stole $48,000 worth of the previous underwear, and so he wanted the new pink underwear distasteful to the inmates so money could be saved. Sheriff Arpaio is very pragmatic, practical and wise. He sees things as they really are, and this why the liberals want to attack him on the issue oif illegal immigration, as well as anything else they can cook up, "spin", and fabricate. These people are promoting Dan Saban as the honest and inspiring replacement for the sheriff. Mr. Saban appears to be dishonest. I saw someone questioning him on Utube about something he had written. The questioning established that Mr. Saban had been lying about what he he had written. The interviewer, after a strenuous question and answer session with Mr. Saban (with a lot of verbal athletics about "mis-leading" people and "lying", Mr. Saban finally admitted to knowingly disseminating false information to the media and others. He was being dishonest and obviously evasive for most of the conversation, but his transgression had been so obvious and readily apparent, that his only reasonable and logical act was to admit the truth.

Concerning illegal immigration, I remember listening to a call-in talk show years ago, where the host was speaking with several callers from the border with Mexico. These callers were saying they were witnessing hundreds and hundreds of people from the South streaming across the border, but federal and local law enforcement did nothing to stop them. I think it was the federal government's legal responsibility to protect our country against foreign invasion. They ignored it because they wanted it to happen so it would be much easier in the future to merge Canada, the USA, and Mexico into one economic and political union. This is the kind of spirit and movement that is harassing and persecuting the Sheriff as he is trying to enforce the law and establish common sense procedures and regulations to protect Arizona and the USA.

Mr. Saban's lie and attempt to "spin" his way out of admitting the truth, is only the tip of the iceberg of the lies, spins, deceptions, political and legal campaign wars against Sheriff Arpaio. The Establishment and dishonest people are determined to discedit and bring him down.

the reason why the sheriff is always under fire especially in the media, is because he thinks out of the box!! this man is doing everything he can to put criminals in jail, and reduce the rate of recitivism. he is constantly under fire because he dares to challenge the system, is not afraid of anyone, and is simply doing his job. we are lucky to have a man like that in government, and if we had more like him, our state wouldnt be in the mess its in now!!

Joe is a typical politician; he is a bad sheriff. He arrested Mexicans for the free news attention. Apraio was a convicted felon who took money from drug dealers. He can't even carry a gun. Maricopa county is just like Washington, D.C., full of corruption, greed, and a big waste of the taxpayers' money.

I would suspect that the act of treason against the lawful citizens of these United States and the willful obstruction of justice in Maricopa county, perpetrated by one ( Lydia Guzman ) will ultimately be the death of her. I also suspect, that her illegal Mexican friends will be more than happy to hold the all revered ( Car Wash ) in her honor, although she is apparently devoid of any honor whatsoever, to help with her funeral expenses. PHOENIX -- The Phoenix U.S. Census office is working with Hispanic organizations in the state to make sure they get an accurate count of the number of illegals living in Arizona.
Local Census office manager Al Nieto said that encouraging illegal immigrants to fill out the Census forms is not only important for statistical reasons, but also for funding.
"We have many people who are in Arizona who are not here legally, but whose children attend our schools and go to hospitals, and those are all affected by the Census results and the federal dollars that come back to Arizona," Nieto said.
According to the General Accounting Office, 65 percent of Hispanic residents nationwide returned Census forms in 2000, compared with 78 percent of white residents.
Max Gonzales, vice president of communications for Chicanos Por La Causa, one of the organizations working with the Census, believes the government is just doing its job.
"The Census is doing the requirements of the constitution, which is to go out and count every inhabitant," Gonzales said. "An inhabitant doesn't mean whether it's documented or undocumented. It's every inhabitant."
According to the Census office, Arizona will end up losing about $400 per year for the next 10 years for every person the state can't count, adding up to $4,000 per person. If the state misses out on counting 250 people, that will add up to $1 million in lost funding.
Gonzales said committee workers are going to various communities to hand out pamphlets about the Census and inform people that filling out the forms is a good thing.
"It's our job to let them know that reaching out to the Census is OK and that their information is safe and secure," Gonzales said. "This does impact them on a real micro level."
But one illegal immigrant, who identified himself only as Pedro, said he doesn't plan on filling out the Census form.
"They call us illegals and we don't count for the government," Pedro said. "They push us away and they don't want us here. So what (do) they want us (for)? Just (so) we get counted for money?"

And there you have it my friends; the sole reason our elected officials are pushing so hard to get sheriff Joe Arpaio out of office, the sheriff is not deporting illegal aliens back across the border he’s deporting “ MONEY “ back across the border and this bankrupt state can’t have that happen. It is my opinion that the elected officials of the state of Arizona, are supporting groups such as Chicanos Por La Causa, La-Raza, and ( Lydia “ the scuz “ Guzman ) and her ( We are Not!! America Coalition ) in order to bring in and retain as many “ illegal aliens as possible, in order to defraud the Federal Government out of Millions of dollars during the 2010 census period. If ever a Federal investigation was warranted, this is it and should begin at the state capital and work it’s way down. In lieu of a Federal investigation into the working’s at the State Capital, we are forced to live with a criminal illegal alien element, because” they amount to Money for the state. If you don’t believe me, just ask Pedro. That’s my opinion, what’s yours? J.W. Simms.
