Arpaio For Governor?
Local radio station KTAR is reporting that Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio may be considering a gubernatorial run:
(Arpaio) won't say what he'd do about the state budget if elected.

"First of all I won't answer that and give away my secrets to all the other opponents," he said. "I will answer that if I decide to run. People have to understand where I'm coming from."

He's confident that he'd win the election and can do the job of governor. "I'll take my resume and put it against anybody in this state where I've been in private business. I've been in the Army...I met with ambassadors. I can go on and on."

A November 2008 study by Rasmussen Reports showed Arpaio with a clear advantage over other likely candidates.

In other news, a Department of Justice official sent a strongly worded letter to Arpaio's attorney in a civil rights case over the weekend, saying that the DOJ said it would examine a written summary of the racketeering allegations, not dig through the entire case files.

Arpaio and County Attorney Andrew Thomas announced Thursday they were dropping the racketeering suit against the Board of Supervisors because the DOJ was taking over the investigation.

The letter also said that it would share all the material Arpaio sent with the investigators at the U.S. Attorney's Office. Arpaio is currently the subject of a federal grand jury investigation into allegations of abuse of power.

He is does a great job as sheriff, but we could elect him also to another position, since he has & does & will work for the people of AZ. He would give a hand, not a hand out like Wash. AZ. is already affected by administration with the smoking mirror effect, look how many people turned progressive being indoctinated with agenda, trying to pass bill on amnesty. Maybe President of U.S.A. I'm sure he would kick ass & take names!!!!!!!! & do away with corrupt agenda!!!!!!!

November 2008 was a lot of bad press ago.

I hope Joe does run for Governor. He has to resign as sheriff to do so.

Joe will never win. His popularity is taking hit after hit after his. He can't figure out how to run the MCSO while cutting a budget - that's what all his whining is about - the BOS is trying to take HIS money. How is going to run a STATE in the crisis Arizona is in.

The Governor does not have that much authority. The Governor works with a multitude of politicians, law makers and voters to get anything accomplished. This is not Joe's style. He does not play well with others.

He already said he thought that being Governor would be a demotion, because there are 50 Governors and only one "America's Toughest Sheriff".

What a baffoon!

Pompous, arrogant, ignorant and all for the "Wonderful Me" world he lives in.

But yes, I hope he does resign. And, yessiree, Candy should run for AG.

"I'll take my resume and put it against anybody in this state where I've been in private business." This would be maybe Selling Trips to the Moon???

"I've been in the Army...I met with ambassadors." (And solved the French Connection single-handedly, to hear Joe tell it, though his former fellow DEA agents would disagree.)

"I can go on and on."

We're sure you can go on and on. But PULEEEZ don't!

Joe just took another public personality test. It was negative.

Who are the UM you refer to?

Give me some examples of Joe doing "the right thing for the right reason". I've seen none lately.

"A sheriff that knows what is right and what is wrong." So what you're saying is that deleting emails that are part of a lawsuit investigation in order to destroy evidence ISN'T "wrong" - ??? What part of illegal don't you understand?

I could go on and on and on. Just like Joe.

Gee let's see, we had a governor who became the head of Homeland Security who couldn't tell a terorist from your grandmother. She also vowed to use taxpayer money for court fees to protect illegals who were found on the Maricopa County payrole. Sheriff Joe has my vote over the last two duds in office, or was that dudes?

Not a Nappy fan, but, come on. Joe would never be able to work collectively with all of the politicians involved in any decision of the Gov's office. He MUST have ultimate authority and the Governor does NOT. Joe would be calling upon Justice of the Peace J. Orr out of Tempe to serve warrants against anyone who opposed him. Have Jan Brewer give you a head-count of those who oppose her opinions.

No, let's not compare Nappy and Joe.

Nappy knew how to waltz through the jungle. Joe does not.

Sadly, Simms seems to violate the term "humanity". He would've loved to be involved in state-sanctioned murder, at least until his side lost and he had to face the consequences. No big surprise he loves Apraio's methods and diatribes. But he only cares about that one issue and isn't well enough informed to realize that MCSO does a very ineffective and unprofessional job in that area.

Wow- those who idolize Arpaio are enlightened through their study of their own opinions. The rest of us who pay attention to the facts that are part of the public record are hopeless fools. Nobody (but you) has ever thought of it that way before. Thanks for the wake-up call! No doubt sarcasm is lost in your massive your ego.

One thing about reality- it is what it is. Not what we think it is, or would like it to be. Sheriff Arpaio is about to wake up and smell the coffee, if there were any in the MCSO jails. Of course he has access to unlimited taxpayer funds for high-priced lawyers (even ones from out of state) to provide a defense. He'll need them- but ultimately the facts will catch up to him. It will be televised. :-)

I don't know why everyone is so upset by Joe Arpaio. Don't we want a law enforcement agent who enforces the law? He is popular because he does what is right not what is "politically correct". People should not be upset if they break laws and get caught for breaking them. Leave the emotion at the door. Do the right things in life and you will reap the rewards. Do the wrong things and you suffer the consequences.

We learn though our struggles and challenges to become better people. If people want to immigrate without proper documentation, they know the risk they are taking and they know what they are doing is wrong. We should not change laws just because a lot of people were breaking that law. If enough people rob a bank should we say that it is no longer illegal, even if the bank robber really needs the money? Such selfish actions hurt not only the person who is doing something wrong by compromising their integrity, but also hurt all those who have a stake in the bank or in the case with illegal immigration, taxpayers.

It is very weak to call someone a racist just because he enforces laws. One can truly understand the benefits of diversity and respect other cultures without having to compromise our national set of laws. Legal immigration is the answer my friends! It is unfair to every person who immigrated to this country legally to give illegal immigrants the same rights for knowingly trying to take advantage of the system.

Joe Arpaio should be elected because he makes decision based on his morals and not what is the most popular or politically correct.

Is this blog about "illegal immigration"? I think not- it says its about Arpaio- specifically whether he will run for Governor. His drones can only talk about one issue. He makes a lot (LOT) of noise about immigration enforcement, but those who have done their homework know that he does an amateurish job even of that. In other areas he is far less competent, which is why all the charges have been dropped in so many cases against those who he and Thomas have maliciously prosecuted. There's your sign.

Now let's talk about the subject- who would like a Governor who destroys evidence of his wrongdoing and incompetence? He admitted such through his attorney. Want to read about it? Just say so and I will post links (or you can just use Google).

if it's true that "[Arpaio] makes decision based on his morals"- his moral compass is way out of whack. He makes his decisions based on cynical exploitative politics. And he has lots of people fooled.

The problem is that there must be lots of people out there whose moral compasses are as defective as his. That is no good for society.

Phoenix has become a "free City" for illegal immigrants. The only one doing anything about it is Sheriff Joe Arpaio. He has repeatedly rounded up hundreds of illegals, finds drop houses almost daily with 20 to 40 illegals being held for ransom, and almost weekly finds companies employing the illegals. The Hispanic community has been demonstrating regularly to stop his efforts.

The Phoenix Mayor (a real loser) has protested to Washington. The former AZ governor, who is now over our national security, took funds from Arpaio when she was governor and now is working with the Obama administration to screw over him.

In Phoenix and southern Arizona, vans full of illegals are found regularly crossing the border. Hit and run fatalities are happening regularly, and when the drivers are caught, it is almost always an illegal. Most of the violent crimes are committed by them.

And the one group, the Shiriff's office, that is trying to stop all this, and has had a lot of success, is the target of Obama's pro-terrorist AG, Eric Holder.

Without Sheriff Joe and his men Arizona would be another little Mexico. The majority of the crime takes place in south Phoenix. Who do you think lives there? We are the only country in the world that allows people to live and work illegally. Try that in Mexico or anyplace else and see what it gets you.

I support Sheriff Joe's efforts to enforce the laws of OUR nation. There were illegals from 90 different countries who crossed the Mexican border into the USA. It has to stop! Loop holes need to be changed such as granting automatic citizenship to any child born here. If the parent is an illegal, so is the child. I wish the Sheriff the best and hope he keeps up the sweeps.

I am a right to middle right conservative. The thought Joe running for Governor is downright scarry. He could not manage the single largest budget in Maricopa County, how do we expect this "immigrant" to manage the state budget. Did I say immigrant above? Yes I did. Joe should be for legal immigration as he is one. Joe's ideas touch on the correct side of issues and then he wanders off to la la land. The thought of him running Arizona with no good oversight (our state house and senate are not doing their job either) is downright scarry. His intentions would be honorable but his implementation would be disasterous. Arizona has better choices so lets choose a better person for the job. And no, it is not our current governor nor was it Napalitano. Heck, we have not had a good governor for a long time now. I just hope the Arizona voters pay attention to ALL the facts and not just one pet belief to elect our next governor.
